Golf in the City

This was a unique golf sporting event staged at Canary wharf that incorporated a floating green positioned in the middle of the water and a large golfing village marquee.

The Countess brief was fourfold.

  • To construct on top of a floating pontoon a solid structure on top of which a live golf green could be laid.¬†Countess achieved this using a trussing system to create a platform on top of which two layers of ply was then laid. The ply was then shaped to the design of the green. This formed the ideal base for the specialist green company to then lay their green. The result was great.
  • To construct three teeing off bays, two which would be floating on the water and one on the quayside. Again we used trussing and ply to create the base then laid astroturf as the finished surface. Around three sides of the tee, we constructed a framing on which we attached safety netting and corporate advertising.¬†
  • To install a 20m x 50m golf village marquee in Montgomery square inside which we constructed indoor golf nets, a separate space for a retail outlet including changing rooms, two oriental marquees for retailers and a reception desk.

With a number of major sponsors for the event, we organised the production and installation of the event branding.

The event lasted 5 days and proved a winner to avid golfers who enjoyed the unique experience of trying to shoot a hole in one and win an Aston Martin. Alas, no one quite succeeded.
